Monument of the Szczecin Pilot
Did you know that......
there was a project of the Monument of the Szczecin Pilot (Stettiner Lotsendenkmal).
German artist Cuno von Üchteritz-Steinkirch (1856 - 1908), born in Wroclaw was the author of the project and the sculptor of its model.
The project has never been concluded and the monument has never been created.
But?..
there is a miniature. It was made in bronze, based on the model in 1965.
Currently it is the transient prize for the winner of the annual race for yacht up to 15 m in length held in the North Sea.
History makes circle
After many years of exile and living by friends... our homelessness is finished. We build a home - the Pilot Station. It was built at the grounds on the west banks of Odra , at Swiatowida Street. Here is its location.
From the north part of the ground we had to remove the remaining foundations that in accordance to the Retired Pilots were residues of a German Pilot Station. We visited the City Archives and here is what we found there:
It appeares that in 2005 we built the Pilot Station at the same grounds where in 1930 German colleagues had built their Lotsenstastion. Here are the two stations:
